Short answer: with $100 to spend on an IPTV box in 2026, buy the Onn 4K Pro for $59.98 and keep the change. It has Ethernet, a USB port, 32GB of storage and full Google TV, and nothing between $60 and $100 does meaningfully more for IPTV. The surprising part: the boxes that used to define this price bracket, the Google TV Streamer and the Roku Ultra, both jumped to around $150 in 2026. The $100 tier has been hollowed out.

What happened to the $100 box
For years, $100 was the sweet spot. It got you Google's Chromecast successor or a Roku Ultra, both with Ethernet, quick processors and good remotes. The cheap sticks were for spare rooms, and the $100 boxes were for the main TV.
In 2026, memory prices spiked as AI data centres bought up DRAM and flash, and the streaming companies passed the cost straight on. Roku took the Ultra from $99.99 to $149.99. Google raised the Google TV Streamer from $99.99 to $149 at the end of August. Apple went further, putting the Apple TV 4K up to $199 for the base model in June. Amazon's Fire TV Cube went to $199.99.
None of these boxes changed inside. Same chips, same ports, higher prices.
So the useful question is no longer "which $100 box?" It's "what do you actually lose by spending $60?" And for IPTV, the answer is almost nothing.
What $100 buys now
| Device | Price (Sept 2026) | Ethernet | Storage | Playlist players | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onn 4K Pro | $59.98 | Yes, 100Mbps | 32GB | Any on Google Play | Yes, first choice |
| Roku Streaming Stick 4K | $79.99 | No | n/a | Very few | No, for IPTV |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | $84.99 (often ~$50) | Via adapter | 16GB | Appstore + sideloading | Yes, ideally on sale |
| Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd gen) | ~$97 in US (import) | No | 32GB | Any on Google Play | Outside the US |
| Fire TV Cube | $199.99 list | Yes | 16GB | Appstore + sideloading | Only if discounted below $100 |
Prices checked in September 2026 at the manufacturers and major US retailers. The Fire TV Cube has sold at around half price in earlier 2026 sales. If you ever see it under $100, it becomes a strong option, because it pairs Ethernet with a quicker processor than anything else here.
The case for spending $60, not $100
Here's what matters for IPTV, and where the Onn 4K Pro lands on each.
A wired connection. This is the single biggest factor in whether a live stream holds up during a busy evening. The Onn 4K Pro has an Ethernet port. It's 100Mbps rather than gigabit, which sounds like a downgrade, but a 4K stream uses about 25Mbps. You won't hit the ceiling watching TV.
Storage. 32GB. That's as much as the $149 Google TV Streamer and double the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It gives an IPTV player room to cache a large programme guide without the whole system slowing down.
An open app store. Google TV with the Play Store means every licensed live TV app plus every mainstream playlist player. If your provider gives you an M3U link or Xtream Codes details, our player comparison covers which ones work best on Google TV.
A USB-A port. Useful for a flash drive or a USB hard drive if your player supports recording. Neither Google's own Streamer nor any Fire TV stick has one.
The trade-offs are 3GB of RAM rather than 4GB, a budget-feeling plastic body, and patchy stock since its May 2026 launch, though Walmart restocked widely in September. It's sold in the US only. None of that stops us recommending it as the default.
If you're in Amazon's world: Fire TV Stick 4K Max
Some households just prefer Fire TV. The interface is familiar, Alexa works across the house, and Prime Video is front and centre. For them, the 4K Max is the right pick in this budget.
At $84.99 list, it's worse value than the Onn. But Amazon discounts it constantly, and it hit $49.99 in late August 2026. At that price it's excellent. It still runs Android-based Fire OS, which matters because Amazon's newer, cheaper sticks run Vega OS and can only install Appstore apps.
Add Amazon's Ethernet adapter, about $20, and you've got a wired setup for around $70 on sale. Our Fire TV buying guide goes model by model.
Outside the US: Xiaomi TV Box S
Walmart doesn't sell Onn boxes outside the US and Puerto Rico. In Europe, the UK and much of Asia, the equivalent certified pick is Xiaomi's TV Box S (3rd generation). It runs Google TV with the Play Store, has Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Vision and 32GB of storage, and usually sells for well under the equivalent of $100 in those markets.
It has no Ethernet port, which is its main weakness for live sport. A USB Ethernet adapter can help, as its USB port accepts common adapters, but check compatibility reports for your specific adapter before buying. In the US, the imported price of around $97 makes it poor value next to the Onn.
Roku Streaming Stick 4K: why it's not on the list
At $79.99 after Roku's price rise, the Streaming Stick 4K is a fine device for people who watch through YouTube TV, Sling or Philo's own Roku apps. The menus are simple and it's reliable.
But this is an IPTV buying guide, and Roku's platform is closed. There's no sideloading for ordinary users, and there are very few capable M3U players in the channel store. If your service is a playlist from a licensed provider, a Roku will frustrate you whatever it costs. IPTV on Roku explains the limits in detail.
Spend the rest on the network
Buy the $60 box and you've got $40 left from your budget. Don't give it back to the device makers. Put it where it actually changes your picture.
- A 25 to 50-foot Cat 6 cable costs $10 to $20. If you can get a cable from the router to the TV, even along a skirting board, do it. That's the best $15 you'll spend on IPTV.
- A powerline adapter kit runs the network through your electrical wiring. Results vary with the building, but it's a common fix when a cable isn't practical.
- A mesh node near the TV if your router is at the other end of the house.
Check you've got enough bandwidth to begin with, too. Our internet speed guide sets out what 1080p and 4K streams really need.
Skip these
- Unbranded "8K Android 14" boxes at $60 to $90. The price looks premium, the hardware isn't. Most aren't Google-certified and don't get security updates.
- Any box sold with "channels included". That means unlicensed apps preinstalled. They get blocked, and you've paid for a box that stops being useful.
- The Google TV Streamer at $149, unless you specifically want its built-in Thread and Matter smart-home hub.
- A used Nvidia Shield at inflated prices. US stock dried up in September 2026 and resale listings jumped. It's 2019 hardware; don't pay a premium for it.
And remember the box is only half the purchase. Before you pay for a service, check it's licensed and run the free trial on a busy night.
Quick answers
What's the best IPTV box under $100? The Onn 4K Pro at $59.98. It has Ethernet, USB-A, 32GB of storage and full Google TV.
Why not the Google TV Streamer? It rose to $149 at the end of August 2026, and for IPTV it does little more than the Onn 4K Pro.
Is the Roku Ultra still under $100? No. Roku raised it to $149.99 in 2026.
Is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max good for IPTV? Yes, and it still runs Android-based Fire OS. It's best value when it's on sale at around $50.
Does a more expensive box stream better? Not in any way you'd notice for live TV. Your connection and your provider matter far more.
What should I do with the rest of my budget? Put it into a long Ethernet cable, a powerline kit or a mesh node near the TV.
Can I use these boxes outside the US? Onn devices are US-only; the Xiaomi TV Box S is the usual certified alternative elsewhere.
Prices are US list and retail prices seen in September 2026 and change often; sale prices aren't guaranteed. We recommend only certified hardware, licensed services, and players used with a playlist or login you already have. Checked September 2026.
