Short answer: on a Fire OS stick (4K, 4K Max, older HD models, Cube), TiviMate with the $11.99/year or $33.99 lifetime Premium licence is still the player to beat for live TV with a guide. The catch most lists skip: Amazon's newest entry-level Fire TV Stick runs Vega OS, which can't install Android apps at all, so no player on this page will go on it. Check which stick you own before paying for anything.

Our picks for Fire TV (Fire OS models)
| Best overall | TiviMate Premium |

| Best cheap upgrade | Televizo Premium |
| For tinkerers | Kodi + PVR IPTV Simple Client |
| Won't work on | Vega OS Fire TV Stick (2025 entry model) |
First: which Fire TV do you have?
This matters more than which app you pick. Amazon now sells two very different operating systems under the same Fire TV branding.
Fire OS is Android underneath. The Fire TV Stick 4K, 4K Max, the older Stick HD and the Fire TV Cube all run it. You can install Android players from the Amazon Appstore, or sideload them after turning on "Apps from Unknown Sources" in Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options.
Vega OS is Amazon's own Linux-based system, on the newest budget Fire TV Stick. It can't run Android APKs. There's no setting to change and no workaround. If a player isn't in the Vega Appstore, it doesn't exist for that device.
To check, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About. If you see "Fire OS" and a version number, you're fine. If you're shopping for a stick specifically to run a player app, buy the 4K or 4K Max, not the cheapest model. Our streaming device guide goes deeper on that.
The shortlist, with prices
All of these are players. None of them come with channels. You bring a playlist or login from a service you already pay for.

TiviMate: why it still wins
It's the guide. TiviMate's grid EPG is the closest thing on Fire TV to a cable box: scroll channels vertically, time horizontally, press OK on a future programme to set a reminder or a recording. Nothing else on the platform does it as cleanly.
The free version gives you one playlist and the basic guide. Premium adds multiple playlists, catch-up, recording to local or network storage, picture-in-picture, and a customisable channel list. For most people the recording and catch-up support is the reason to pay.
How to buy it matters. Premium is sold only through the TiviMate Companion app on Google Play, which you install on a phone. You then sign in on the stick. There's no legitimate way to buy it on a website, and "lifetime keys" sold elsewhere are either resold accounts or fraud. We cover the licence terms in our TiviMate Premium explainer.
Is lifetime worth it? At $33.99 against $11.99 a year, it pays for itself early in year three. If you're confident you'll still be on Fire OS in 2029, buy lifetime. If there's a chance your next device is a Vega stick or an Apple TV, stick to annual.
One honest downside: TiviMate isn't in the Amazon Appstore, so you'll sideload it once using the Downloader app. It's a five-minute job, covered in our Fire TV setup guide.
If you won't pay: OTT Navigator and Televizo
OTT Navigator is the best free option. The free tier includes the EPG, catch-up for Xtream-style logins that support it, external player support and a lot of layout options. Premium mostly adds profiles, picture-in-picture and parental time limits. For a single user, free is enough. It doesn't record, full stop.
It's also less intuitive than TiviMate. Settings are deep and not always labelled clearly. Budget twenty minutes to set it up the way you like.
Televizo takes the opposite approach: fewer menus, a friendlier look, ads on the free tier. The catch is that the EPG, catch-up and recording all sit behind Premium. At roughly $11.99 a year it's the same money as TiviMate annual, and at that price we'd pick TiviMate. Televizo makes sense if you also want the same player on an iPhone, since it now has an iOS version.
Kodi: powerful, fiddly
Kodi is free and runs on Fire OS sticks. Add the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on, point it at your M3U and XMLTV guide URLs, and you get live TV with a guide. Our Kodi IPTV setup guide walks through it.
Should you? Only if you already use Kodi for a local media library and want one app for everything. On a Fire TV Stick 4K it's noticeably slower to load a 2,000-channel guide than TiviMate, and every setting lives two menus deeper than you'd expect. Kodi 22 was in beta in mid-2026, so stay on Kodi 21 for now.
What to avoid
- "Player" apps that arrive preloaded with channels. A legitimate player is empty until you add your own source. If it opens with 10,000 channels, it's an unlicensed service wearing a player's clothes.
- Modded or "premium unlocked" APKs. They're cracked copies from unknown uploaders, with whatever the uploader added. Pay the developer or use a free tier.
- Buying a cheap Vega stick for a sideloaded player. It won't work, and it never will.
- Paying for Premium before testing. Every player here has a free tier. Load your playlist, check the guide matches, then upgrade.
If your guide shows "No information" after setup, that's usually the guide URL, not the player. See why EPG guides don't load.

Which free Firestick player has an EPG? OTT Navigator includes a full guide in its free tier. Televizo keeps its guide behind Premium.
