Short answer: if your Samsung shows it in the Apps store, start with a free player that takes an Xtream login, then move to a paid one like IBO Player Pro or Hot IPTV only if the free one frustrates you. Fees are small, usually €5 to €15 per TV. But here's the catch nobody puts in the headline: Samsung's app store is inconsistent by region and model year, apps disappear from it, and none of the Tizen players records. If you want a proper guide and recording, a $50 streaming stick in the HDMI port beats every native Samsung app.

Native app or plug-in stick?
Decide this first, because it changes everything else.
A native Tizen app is tidy: one remote, no extra box, no extra power adapter. For someone who watches a handful of live channels and doesn't care about recording, that's the right answer.
A plug-in stick is better at nearly everything else. Android players like TiviMate have a faster guide, catch-up, recording and multiple playlists, and the stick gets updates on its own schedule rather than Samsung's. A Fire TV Stick 4K or onn 4K Pro costs around $50, often less on sale. That's less than three years of some paid Tizen players across two TVs.
Our rule of thumb: one TV and light use, go native. Heavy use, sport, or a family that wants to record, get a stick. The best streaming device guide compares the options.
What the Tizen players cost
| App | Price (Sept 2026) | Trial | Login type | Guide | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smarters Player Lite | Free | n/a | Xtream | Yes | Samsung only; check the publisher |
| XOTT | Free | n/a | Device ID | Basic | Listed in some regions |
| IBO Player Pro | About €8 lifetime per TV | 7 days | Device key | Yes | Widely available |
| Hot IPTV | €5.99/yr or €14.99 lifetime | 30 days | Device ID | Yes | Longest trial |
| Smart IPTV | €5.49 once per TV | 7 days | MAC address | Yes | Pulled from Samsung's store in many regions |
| Set IPTV | About $6.99/yr | 7 days | MAC address | Yes | Regional availability varies |
Prices are from the developers' activation pages as of September 2026 and are usually charged per TV, not per household. Availability depends on your TV's region and model year, so search the Samsung Apps store on your own set before planning around any of these.
The free options
Smarters Player Lite takes an Xtream Codes login (server, username, password) and gives you live TV, films and series with a guide. It's free and it's on Samsung, not LG. The name has a history: the original IPTV Smarters developer lost its big app store listings, and different publishers now use similar names. Check who publishes the version on your TV before you type a password into it. Our Smarters explainer covers the background.
XOTT shows up in some regional stores. It's basic, but free is free.
If you only have an M3U link, not an Xtream login, see Xtream Codes vs M3U to work out which one your service gave you.
The paid ones worth the fee
IBO Player Pro is the one we'd pick if you're staying native. It's been reliably available in Samsung's store across regions, handles both M3U and Xtream, and the one-off fee is small. You manage playlists through its website using the device key shown on screen.
Hot IPTV gets the nod for its 30-day trial. A month is long enough to test it during the sport or shows you actually watch, on a busy weekend evening.
Smart IPTV is the old favourite and the cheapest at €5.49 once. It was removed from Samsung's store years ago in many countries, and older models that already have it keep it. If it's in your store, fine. Don't sideload it.
None of these is dramatically better than the others. They're all web-based apps running inside Tizen, which is why the guide scrolls slower than on a Google TV box.
How MAC-address activation works
Most paid Tizen players don't sell through Samsung. You install the app, it shows a MAC address or device key, and you go to the developer's website to upload your playlist and pay.
Two things follow from that. The licence is tied to that one TV, so a second TV needs a second fee. And the payment goes to the developer directly, so use a card or PayPal on their official site, never a link sent by a reseller. Also write the MAC address down somewhere. If you factory-reset the TV, you'll want it.
When the stick wins
- You want to record matches or shows. No Tizen player here does it.
- Your playlist has thousands of channels. Tizen's web apps struggle with long guides.
- You have two or three TVs. One TiviMate Premium licence covers up to five devices; Tizen players charge per set.
- Your TV is more than five years old. Older Tizen versions drop out of new app releases first.
For set-up either way, see IPTV on Samsung smart TVs.
Red flags
A player that opens with channels already loaded isn't a player. It's an unlicensed service. The same goes for a seller who says "we'll activate the app for you, just send us your MAC". A real player is empty until you add a playlist or login from a service you pay for, and you activate it yourself on the developer's site.
And remember Samsung TV Plus, built into every recent Samsung, is free, licensed, and has hundreds of channels. Check it before paying for anything.
Quick answers
What's the best IPTV player for Samsung TV? IBO Player Pro for a paid native app; Smarters Player Lite to try for free. For guide and recording, a streaming stick with TiviMate is better.
Is Smart IPTV still on Samsung TVs? It was removed from Samsung's store in many regions. Older sets that already had it may keep it.
Do I pay per TV? Usually yes. Most Tizen players activate by the TV's MAC address or device key.
Can a Samsung TV record IPTV? Not with these apps. Use a streaming stick with a recording-capable player.
Is there a free IPTV player on Samsung? Smarters Player Lite and, in some regions, XOTT. Availability varies.
Can I sideload apps on a Samsung TV? Only through developer mode and Tizen Studio, which is fiddly and not something we recommend for everyday use.
Do these apps include channels? No. You add a playlist or login from a service you already subscribe to.
Fees are from developer activation pages and vary by currency and region; store availability differs by TV model year. These apps are players only and contain no channels. Checked September 2026.
