Best IPTV Player for Windows 11 (2026): Free Picks and One Worth Paying For

Short answer: for most people on Windows 11, the best IPTV player is free. Kodi 21 with the PVR IPTV Simple Client gives you a full TV guide, catch-up and (with a backend) recording. If Kodi feels like too much, IPTVnator is a lighter open-source app with a clean guide. The catch: many older guides tell you to run TiviMate through the Windows Subsystem for Android. Microsoft discontinued that in March 2025, and emulators like BlueStacks are a clumsy substitute. Use a native Windows player instead.

What happened to Android apps on Windows

For a couple of years, Windows 11 could run Android apps through the Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore. That made TiviMate on a laptop possible. Microsoft ended support on 5 March 2025, and the Amazon Appstore for Windows went with it.

You can still run Android players inside an emulator such as BlueStacks. We don't think it's worth it. You get an app designed for a TV remote inside a phone-shaped window, extra memory use, and another piece of software with its own ads and updates. Native Windows players do the job better.

Five players compared

Player Price (Sept 2026) Where to get it Guide Catch-up Recording
Kodi 21 Free kodi.tv or Microsoft Store Full grid Yes With a backend
IPTVnator Free, open source GitHub releases Yes Limited No
MyIPTV Player Free with ads Microsoft Store Basic No No
Megacubo Free, open source Developer site / GitHub Yes No No
VLC Free videolan.org No No Manual only

Features checked against each project's documentation in September 2026. Open-source projects change quickly, so check the release notes of whatever version you download.

Be careful with Megacubo: depending on version and settings it can offer to load public channel lists. Use it only with your own playlist, and switch off anything that pulls in third-party lists.

Kodi: the one we'd install

Kodi is overkill as a player and exactly right as a TV app. Once the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on has your M3U URL and XMLTV guide URL, you get a proper channel grid, reminders, catch-up (where the service supports it), and timeshift on live channels. It runs full-screen and works with a keyboard, a mouse, or an Xbox controller if the PC is plugged into a TV.

Setup takes about fifteen minutes, and our Kodi IPTV setup guide has the steps. Two tips specific to Windows: install from kodi.tv or the Microsoft Store, never from a "preconfigured build" site; and stay on Kodi 21 "Omega" until Kodi 22 leaves beta, since its Python upgrade breaks some older add-ons.

Downsides: the settings are deep, and a very large guide (10,000 entries) takes a while to import the first time. After that it's quick.

Lighter options

IPTVnator is a modern, open-source player built for exactly this: paste an M3U link or log in with Xtream details, add a guide URL, done. It feels like a desktop app, not a TV app. For watching at a desk, it's pleasant. Downloads are on its GitHub releases page; Windows SmartScreen may warn you because it's unsigned, which is common for small open-source projects.

MyIPTV Player is the easy option because it's in the Microsoft Store, so it installs and updates like any other app. It has ads and a basic guide, and development has been quiet for a long time. Fine for occasional viewing.

VLC will open any M3U and play the channels in a list. No guide. Its real value is diagnosis: if a stream fails in your main player but plays in VLC, the player is the problem. How to use VLC to diagnose IPTV.

Using your PC as a recorder

Here's where Windows beats every TV platform: a desktop PC can be the recorder for the whole house.

Channels DVR runs on Windows, takes M3U sources and antenna tuners, and records to the PC's drive. Every TV in the house then plays recordings through the Channels app on Apple TV, Fire TV or Android TV. It's a subscription, so check the current price on their site.

UHF Server does a similar job for households using UHF on Apple devices.

Both need the PC left on. A small, low-power mini PC often makes more sense than a gaming tower running around the clock. More on the options in recording IPTV.
