Best IPTV Service UK 2026: The Cheapest Legal Way to Get Sky

Short answer: the cheapest legal way to get Sky channels in the UK in 2026 is NOW. Its Entertainment membership is £7.99 a month (£4.99 for the first six months if you commit to six), and it carries the main Sky entertainment channels live. Once you want Sky Sports for a whole season, Sky Stream on a 24-month deal usually overtakes it, because the sports add-on is discounted there and NOW Sports costs about £35 a month on its own.

At a glance

Sky channels, cheapest first (October 2026)

Sky Atlantic, Max etc. NOW Entertainment, £7.99/month
Sky Cinema NOW Cinema, £9.99/month
Sky Sports, one big match NOW day membership, about £14.99
Sky Sports, full season Sky Stream Essential + Sports, from £35/month
Hidden extra TV licence, £180/year, for any live viewing

The three legal routes to Sky

Page one of Google for "best IPTV service UK 2026" is full of posts promising every Sky channel for a few pounds. Strip those out and there are really only three ways to pay for Sky's channels legally, and all three are IPTV, in the sense that they arrive over your broadband.

NOW is Sky's own no-contract streaming service. You buy "memberships" (Entertainment, Cinema, Sports) and add Boost for HD and a second screen. It runs on most smart TVs, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, games consoles and phones.

Sky Stream is Sky's full TV service delivered over broadband through a small puck, on a 24-month contract or a 31-day rolling plan. It includes Netflix's ad-supported tier, a proper channel guide, and "recordings" through a cloud playlist.

A broadband bundle from Sky, Virgin Media, EE or BT, where Sky channels are sold as part of a TV-plus-broadband package. These can look expensive on the headline price, but the broadband is in there too.

Which one is cheapest depends almost entirely on whether you want sport.

Every price side by side

Prices as listed by Sky and NOW, and in UK price comparisons dated September 2026. Contract prices are for new customers.

What you get Route Monthly Commitment
Sky entertainment channels NOW Entertainment £7.99 (£4.99 intro) 6 months for the intro price
Same, plus HBO Max NOW Entertainment & HBO Max £9.99 (£6.99 intro) 6 months for the intro price
Sky entertainment + Netflix (ads) Sky Stream Essential TV £15 / £18 rolling 24 months / 31 days
Sky Cinema NOW Cinema £9.99 None
Sky Cinema add-on Sky Stream £14 / £17 standard 24 months
Sky Sports, one day NOW Sports day About £14.99 24 hours
Sky Sports, monthly NOW Sports month About £34.99 None
Essential TV + Sky Sports Sky Stream deal £35 24 months
Essential TV + Sky Sports Sky Stream rolling £43 + £20 setup 31 days

Add-ons that change the maths: NOW Boost is £6 a month (Full HD, no ads on on-demand, two screens) and Ultra Boost £9 (adds a third screen and 4K where available). On Sky Stream, UHD and Dolby Atmos is £6 a month.

If you just want the dramas

For Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Sky Comedy, Sky Crime, Sky Documentaries and the rest of Sky's entertainment line-up, NOW is clearly cheapest.

Over a first year, committing to six months at the intro price, NOW Entertainment costs about £78: six months at £4.99, then six at £7.99. Sky Stream Essential costs £180 on contract or £216 rolling.

So why would anyone pay double? Three reasons, and you can decide whether any of them is worth £100 a year to you.

  • Netflix is included with Sky Stream, on the ad-supported tier. If you'd pay for Netflix anyway, much of the gap disappears.
  • Picture quality. NOW without Boost streams at 720p. Adding Boost brings NOW to roughly £168 a year, close to Sky Stream on contract.
  • A real channel guide with Freeview channels in one place, plus a playlist that works like a recorder.

If you'd use none of those, NOW Entertainment without Boost is the answer. If you'd add both Boost and Netflix, Sky Stream Essential on contract is usually the cheaper whole package.

If you want Sky Sports

This is where the routes split hardest, because NOW Sports isn't discounted and Sky is keen to sell Sports on contract.

Occasional matches: NOW day memberships. Three big matches a season at about £15 each is £45, far less than any monthly plan.

A football season, no contract: NOW Sports month by month from August to May is about £350 for ten months, plus £60 if you add Boost for HD and fewer artefacts on fast action. That's the price of flexibility.

All year, on contract: Sky Stream Essential TV plus Sky Sports was £35 a month on a 24-month deal in September 2026, or £420 a year, and that includes the entertainment channels and Netflix. Be aware the deal relies on a Sky Sports discount that can change during the minimum term, so read the price-change terms before you sign.

Rolling Sky: £43 a month with a £20 setup charge. Over ten months that's £450, slightly more than NOW, but with Essential TV and Netflix included.

A rule that holds up: if you'd take Sky Sports for more than about eight months of the year and want entertainment channels too, Sky Stream on contract wins. If you dip in and out, NOW wins. Premier League fans should remember that Sky only has part of the fixture list; our guide to sports streaming and rights explains why one subscription rarely covers everything.

When a broadband bundle wins

Bundles are hard to compare because the broadband is mixed in. The trick is to subtract what you'd pay for broadband alone.

Some September 2026 examples, all on 24-month terms:

  • Virgin Media M125 fibre with Flex and Sky Sports at about £57.57 a month, rising each April (to £61.57 from April 2027).
  • EE TV Sport Plus with Full Fibre 150 at £73.99 a month, rising to £79.99 from March 2027 and £85.99 from March 2028.
  • Sky Essential TV, Sky Sports and Full Fibre 150 at around £52 to £55 a month.

If your broadband alone would cost £30, the Virgin deal puts Sky Sports and the TV service at roughly £27 a month, which competes well. The EE deal includes more sport, so it isn't a straight comparison.

Watch the built-in rises. UK providers now print annual pound-amount increases in the contract, so a deal that starts cheapest can finish the 24 months as the dearest. Work out the total over the full term, not the first month.

The catches in the cheap options

NOW's intro price needs a six-month commitment. The £4.99 Entertainment offer and the £6.99 HBO Max one lock you in for six months; the flexible monthly option costs more.

NOW streams one screen at a time unless you add Boost (two) or Ultra Boost (three). A busy household can't share one basic membership.

Sky's 24-month deals renew at the standard price. Essential TV jumps from £15 to £21 when the term ends unless you renegotiate. Put a reminder in your calendar for month 23.

Every route needs a TV licence if you watch anything live, which you will with Sky channels. It's £180 a year from April 2026, covering the whole household.

Older TVs may not run NOW. If yours doesn't, a NOW Smart Stick costs about £15, or any recent streaming stick will do. Our streaming device guide covers the options.

What about "Sky for £8 a year"?

Most of the competing results for this search sell exactly that: every Sky Sports, TNT and Sky Cinema channel for £5 to £10 a month, or a "12-month" plan for under £60. Sky doesn't license its channels to these sellers, so the price isn't a deal; it's the reason the service is unlicensed.

Unlicensed IPTV sellers in the UK have received prison sentences, and the Federation Against Copyright Theft has sent warning notices to subscribers. Even setting the law aside, the maths is worse than it looks. Services vanish without refunds, especially around big matches, and a year paid upfront is a year you may not get. Our breakdown of whether a 12-month IPTV plan is worth it runs the numbers, and the scam checklist covers how these sellers operate.

The legal floor is NOW Entertainment at £4.99 a month for six months. That's the honest benchmark for anything claiming to be cheaper.
