Short answer: if you're a Brit living in the US, the best "UK IPTV" isn't an IPTV subscription at all. It's BritBox for BBC and ITV shows, Acorn TV for the deeper drama and mystery catalogue, and PBS Masterpiece for the prestige period dramas, with BBC America on any live TV package you already pay for. The UK's own apps (BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4) are built for UK residents only, and the cheap "UK channels" subscriptions sold online aren't licensed in either country.
At a glance
British TV from a US address
| Best all-round | BritBox, $10.99/month since Sept 2025 |
| Best for crime and mystery | Acorn TV (went up $1 in May 2026) |
| Best for period drama | PBS Masterpiece, $5.99/month on Prime Video |
| Live British channel | BBC America, inside most live TV packages |
| Not available in the US | BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5 |
| Avoid | "Every UK channel for $15" IPTV deals |
Why "UK IPTV" is the wrong search for expats
Type "best UK IPTV" into Google and you'll get a page of listicles promoting anonymous services, each promising Sky Sports, BBC One and thousands of other channels for a few pounds a month. Not one of them shows a licence, and most can't even give you a company name.
That's not a quirk of search. Nobody sells a legal package of live UK channels to viewers in the United States. Sky's channels are licensed for the UK and Ireland. BBC One and ITV1 are licensed for UK audiences, and the US rights to their programmes are sold separately, show by show, to American companies. So the realistic question for a Brit in Boston or Austin isn't "which IPTV has the most UK channels". It's "which US services bought the shows I actually miss".
The good news is that the answer covers a surprising amount: the soaps, the detective series, Bake Off, panel shows and most of the big dramas are all on licensed US services, usually for less than the price of one cheap takeaway a month.
The licensed options, ranked
Ranked for a typical expat who wants a taste of home rather than every channel. Prices are US list prices as of October 2026, before tax.
| Rank | Service | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | BritBox | $10.99/month; annual plan cheaper | BBC and ITV back catalogue, soaps, new UK series soon after broadcast |
| 2 | Acorn TV | About $9.99/month after the May 2026 rise | Detective series, ITV and Channel 4 dramas, Irish and Australian shows |
| 3 | PBS Masterpiece (Prime Video channel) | $5.99/month plus Prime or Prime Video | Period drama and Walter Presents |
| 4 | PBS Passport | A donation to your local station (amount set by the station) | Masterpiece back seasons if you'd rather support PBS directly |
| 5 | BBC America (live) and AMC+ | Included in many live TV packages; AMC+ sold separately | The one live British-branded channel |
| 6 | Netflix, Hulu, Max, Peacock | What you already pay | Individual British hits bought one at a time |
1. BritBox
If you only pay for one thing, make it this. BritBox in the US is run by BBC Studios, and although it started life as a BBC and ITV joint venture, it still licenses plenty of ITV programming alongside the BBC catalogue. It's where expats tend to go for the long-running soaps, classic comedy and new BBC drama that arrives in the US weeks rather than years after UK broadcast.
The monthly price went from $8.99 to $10.99 for billing cycles from 25 September 2025. There's an annual plan that works out cheaper per month, and new subscribers get a 7-day trial. It runs on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, Samsung and LG TVs, phones and the web, and it's also sold as a Prime Video channel if you'd rather have one bill.
2. Acorn TV
Acorn is owned by AMC Networks and leans hard into crime: Midsomer-style village murders, gritty northern procedurals, plus Irish, Australian and New Zealand series that never get a US network slot. It licenses from ITV, the BBC and Channel 4, so its catalogue overlaps less with BritBox than you'd expect. Acorn raised its monthly price by $1 from May 2026; it was $8.99 before that, so budget around $9.99 and check the sign-up page.
3. PBS Masterpiece
Masterpiece has premiered British drama in America for more than fifty years, from Downton Abbey to Grantchester. New episodes air free on your local PBS station. For catch-up and box sets you have two choices: the PBS Masterpiece channel on Prime Video at $5.99 a month (you also need Prime or a standalone Prime Video membership), or PBS Passport, which comes with a donation to your local station. Each station sets its own minimum. The two are separate, so paying for one doesn't unlock the other.
4. BBC America
This is the nearest thing to a live British channel on US TV, though don't expect BBC One. It's an AMC Networks-operated cable channel that mixes BBC-produced series, nature documentaries and a lot of American programming. It's in the base packages of several live TV services, including Philo and Sling, but channel line-ups change, so check before you sign up. AMC+ carries BBC America shows on demand.
5. The big general streamers
Some of the most-watched British shows are bought outright by US streamers. Love Island UK has lived on Hulu for years. Netflix commissions British dramas and comedies directly. Peacock has carried British reality and the Premier League. These deals shift, so if there's one particular show you want, look it up on a free "where to watch" search before paying for anything new.
Which broadcaster's shows end up where
US rights are sold show by show, so this is a rule of thumb rather than a guarantee. Still, it saves a lot of searching.
| UK broadcaster | Where its shows usually land in the US |
|---|---|
| BBC One / BBC Two | BritBox first, then BBC America, PBS or a big streamer for co-productions |
| ITV | BritBox and Acorn TV; big period dramas often go to PBS Masterpiece |
| Channel 4 | Netflix, Hulu or Acorn, depending on the show |
| Channel 5 | Acorn TV and free ad-supported apps |
| Sky originals | Usually sold to Max, Peacock or another US streamer |
Older British series also turn up on free ad-supported apps such as Tubi, Pluto TV and The Roku Channel. Catalogues rotate every month or two, so treat them as a bonus, not a plan.
Why iPlayer, ITVX and Channel 4 don't work here
Every UK broadcaster app checks where you are. BBC iPlayer is only for viewers in the UK, and watching live or on-demand BBC programmes on it also requires a UK TV licence. ITVX, Channel 4's streaming app and My5 are UK services too. None of them sell a US subscription, because the US rights to their best shows are already sold to the companies above.
Plenty of articles go on to explain ways round the location check. We won't. It breaks the services' terms, accounts get blocked, and it's the same rights problem in a different coat. Our guide to IPTV and VPNs covers what a VPN is actually for. If you're back in the UK on a visit, the apps work as normal on your own devices, and that's the honest way to catch up.
Three sensible combinations and what they cost
Rough yearly costs using monthly prices as of October 2026. Annual plans lower them.
| Household | Combination | Approx. per year |
|---|---|---|
| "I just miss the soaps and the comedy" | BritBox | $132 monthly, less on the annual plan |
| Crime-drama household | BritBox + Acorn TV | About $252 |
| Period-drama fan already on Prime | PBS Masterpiece + BritBox (rotate) | About $72 for Masterpiece alone |
A tip that works well with British TV specifically: rotate. UK series run in short seasons, so subscribe to BritBox for the autumn when the big dramas land, drop it, and pick up Acorn for a few months of back catalogue. None of these services ties you to a contract.
British sport and news from the US
Sport is where expats feel the gap most, and it's also where rights are sold most carefully.
- Premier League: NBC holds US rights, with most matches on Peacock and a handful on NBC and USA Network. Our Premier League on Peacock guide breaks down what's included.
- Champions League: Paramount+ in the US.
- England cricket: Willow and ESPN+ split the rights; see Willow TV vs ESPN+.
- Rugby, F1, darts: each sits with a different US rights holder, and those deals change more often than the TV ones. Check the competition's own "where to watch" page before the season.
- News: BBC News has a US-facing website and app, and BBC World News content airs on some public stations. Sky News publishes a free live stream on its official YouTube channel.

What isn't legal, and why it matters
The listicles at the top of the search results mostly sell one of these:
- "UK IPTV" subscriptions with Sky Sports, BBC One, ITV1 and thousands of other channels for £10 to £20 a month. No legitimate company holds the rights to sell those channels in the US. The price alone tells you nobody is paying for them.
- Preloaded boxes sold to expats with a year of "UK TV" included. Same streams, plus hardware you can't update safely.
- Shared UK logins to Sky Go or NOW. They breach the account terms, and those services check location anyway.
In the US, the legal risk mostly falls on the people selling these services, but the practical risks fall on you: services vanish overnight, card details end up with people you can't trace, and payment disputes rarely succeed. Our guides to whether IPTV is legal in the US and how to spot an IPTV scam go into detail. The simple test is whether you can name the company, find its terms, and pay through a mainstream app store or card processor. BritBox, Acorn and PBS pass that test. The anonymous "UK IPTV" sellers don't.
