Short answer: these aren't really rivals. Every Fox channel on Fox One is also on YouTube TV's base plan, so if you already pay for YouTube TV, Fox One adds nothing you can't watch. Fox One makes sense only for someone who doesn't want a $82.99 bundle and mainly cares about Fox's sports and news: NFL on Fox, Big Ten football, FS1, Fox News. At $19.99 it's about a quarter of the price. The catch is everything it leaves out: no CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, TNT or cable entertainment channels at all.

The overlap problem
Fox One launched in August 2025 as Fox's first all-in-one streaming app. It bundles the channels Fox owns: your local Fox station, FS1, FS2, Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, Fox Deportes and Big Ten Network, plus on-demand Fox entertainment.
YouTube TV carries every one of those. So comparing the two is really asking: do you want Fox's slice of TV for $19.99, or the whole pie for $82.99?
There's also a middle option that didn't exist a year ago. YouTube TV's Sports plan, launched in February 2026 at $64.99, strips out the entertainment channels but keeps locals, ESPN, Fox Sports and the league networks. It narrows the gap between the two considerably, and for a sports-only household it's the fairer comparison with Fox One.
If you already subscribe to YouTube TV, don't buy Fox One. You'd be paying twice for identical channels. There's one small exception worth checking: Fox has advertised 4K on Fox One for major events at no extra charge, while YouTube TV charges for 4K Plus. For most people that difference doesn't justify $20 a month.
And if you have any pay-TV subscription that carries Fox, you can generally sign in to Fox's apps with it. Check before buying.
What Fox One doesn't have
This is the list that sends people back to YouTube TV.
The other networks. No CBS, NBC or ABC. For NFL fans that's a big gap: Fox has the NFC Sunday afternoon package, but CBS carries AFC games, NBC has Sunday Night Football, and ESPN and ABC have Monday nights. Fox One alone shows you roughly a third of the national TV schedule.
ESPN. You'd need ESPN Unlimited separately. Fox sells a Fox One plus ESPN Unlimited bundle ($39.99 at launch), which is a smart pairing for sports fans. See our ESPN tiers explained before you add it.
Entertainment cable. No HGTV, Food Network, AMC, Bravo, USA, TLC or kids' channels. Fox One is sports, news and Fox's own shows.
Other news. No CNN or MSNBC. If you want the full range of news channels, Fox One won't do it.
DVR, 4K and screens
Both include a cloud DVR. YouTube TV's is unlimited with a nine-month retention window. Fox One's DVR, per launch coverage, keeps recordings for around nine months and allows scheduling up to two weeks ahead. Roughly equal for Fox content, but YouTube TV lets you record everything else too.
4K is Fox One's small win. Fox has streamed big events like the Super Bowl and World Cup matches in 4K, and Fox One includes that without an add-on. YouTube TV needs 4K Plus, recently cut to $9.99 a month, which also adds offline downloads.
Screens: YouTube TV allows three streams away from home and more on your home network, with up to six household accounts. Fox One's stream limit isn't prominently advertised, so check the terms if several people will watch at once.
Whichever you pick, 4K needs a steady connection of roughly 25 Mbps per stream. Our speed guide explains how to test yours.
Combinations that beat both
For a lot of people, the best answer isn't either service on its own.
| Combo | Approx. monthly | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Antenna + Fox One | $19.99 | All locals free over the air, plus FS1, Big Ten, Fox News |
| Antenna + Fox One + ESPN Unlimited bundle | about $40 | Most of the NFL and college football schedule |
| YouTube TV Sports plan | $64.99 | Sports networks, locals and your RSN where available |
| YouTube TV Base | $82.99 | Everything, including entertainment and news |
The antenna is the hidden hero here. A one-off $30 to $60 antenna gets you CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox for free in most US homes, which fills Fox One's biggest gap. Check reception at your address using our antenna guide.
Note that the Sports plan's regional sports network coverage varies by market and the plan's channel list has shifted since it launched in February 2026. Check it for your ZIP code.
What a football season costs on each
Plenty of people considering Fox One are really asking about football, so here's the cost of a typical September-to-January season at list prices, before taxes and ignoring introductory offers.
| Setup | 5 months | What you miss |
|---|---|---|
| Fox One only | about $100 | CBS, NBC, ESPN, Amazon and NFL Network games |
| Fox One + antenna | about $100 plus the antenna | ESPN, NFL Network, Amazon Thursday games |
| Fox One + ESPN Unlimited bundle + antenna | about $200 | Amazon Thursday games, NFL Network exclusives, out-of-market games |
| YouTube TV Base | about $415 | Amazon Thursday games and out-of-market games |
| YouTube TV Base + Sunday Ticket | about $790 | Very little |
The jump from the third row to the fourth is the one to think hard about. For about $215 more over a season, YouTube TV adds NFL Network, the cable entertainment channels, a single app and DVR for everything. For a household that watches plenty besides football, that's reasonable. For someone who only switches on for games, the cheaper stack does the job. Amazon Prime Video carries Thursday Night Football separately either way. Our NFL 2026 viewing guide maps every game window to its broadcaster.
Who should get which
Get Fox One if you're a Fox News viewer who doesn't need other cable; a Big Ten fan; an NFC fan who can pick up other games on an antenna; or someone who wants FS1 for MLB, NASCAR and soccer without a full bundle.
Get YouTube TV Base if the household watches a mix of sport, news and entertainment, you want NFL Sunday Ticket, or you simply don't want to manage three apps and an antenna. It's the most complete single service. Our YouTube TV overview covers its strengths and gaps in more detail.
Get YouTube TV Sports if you want sports networks and locals but not HGTV and Bravo. It's $18 a month cheaper than Base.
Avoid: stacking Fox One on top of YouTube TV, and annual Fox One plans bought in September if you only watch during football season. Monthly at $19.99 for five months costs about half of the $199.99 annual plan.
And be wary of anyone reselling "Fox One accounts" or bundles of these channels at a steep discount. Fox and YouTube sell directly; third-party resellers of logins aren't licensed and accounts get shut down.
