IPTV for Portuguese Channels in the USA (2026): RTP, SIC, TVI and Liga Portugal

Short answer: for TV from Portugal in the US, the licensed one-stop option is DISH's Luso Pack at $29.99 a month, which carries RTP's international channel, SIC Internacional, SIC Notícias and TVI Internacional. If you only want RTP, it's $9.99 on DISH, or free with a small satellite dish. Two things changed in 2026 that most guides haven't caught: RTP Internacional was renamed RTP Mundo on March 30, and beIN SPORTS became the exclusive US home of Liga Portugal from the 2026/27 season.

What you want, and where it is

Start with the programme, then find the channel that carries it. Prices as published in September 2026.

If you live in a Portuguese community area such as southeastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Newark, check your local cable line-up as well. Some systems have carried Portuguese channels for decades as add-ons.

RTP, SIC and TVI: the three families

Like most countries, Portugal's broadcasters don't send their domestic channels abroad. They run international versions built from programming they can clear worldwide.

RTP Mundo is public broadcaster RTP's international channel. Until March 30, 2026 it was called RTP Internacional (RTPi) and it absorbed RTP África in the same change. Expect news, current affairs, culture, children's programming and some football. DISH still lists it as RTPI on channel 9812, and you'll see both names for a while.

SIC Internacional carries SIC's novelas, entertainment and the evening news, and SIC Notícias is its news channel.

TVI Internacional brings TVI's reality formats, talk shows and fiction.

What you don't get on any of them: the Hollywood films and imported series shown in Portugal, and most live league football, because those rights are bought for Portugal only.

DISH's Portuguese packs

DISH's own international page counts the Luso Pack as five channels; resellers list six including RIT TV. Either way, the three that matter are RTP, SIC and TVI.

These are add-ons to a DISH base package, which is where the real cost sits. If you're already a DISH customer, the Luso Pack is straightforward and comes with the Hopper DVR, so you can record the evening news at 2pm Eastern and watch it at night. If you aren't, you're signing up for satellite TV and usually a 24-month agreement to get a $30 add-on. Worth it for a household that watches Portuguese TV every day; hard to justify otherwise.

Lisbon is five hours ahead of New York, eight ahead of California. Recording beats live viewing for almost everything.

RTP Mundo for free

Here's the option almost nobody mentions. RTP Mundo is free-to-air across North America on the Galaxy 19 satellite. That means no subscription at all, just hardware:

• A Ku-band dish, typically 75 to 90 cm, aimed at Galaxy 19 (97°W).
• A free-to-air satellite receiver, roughly $50 to $120.
• A clear view of the southern sky.

The free-to-air hobby community has used this for years. It's entirely legal, because RTP chooses to broadcast unencrypted. The downsides are installation (aiming a dish takes patience or a local installer) and that you only get RTP's channel, not SIC or TVI.

RTP also offers RTP Mundo through its RTP Play app and website. What plays outside Portugal varies by programme, since some shows carry Portugal-only rights. Treat it as a bonus, not a replacement for a channel.

Benfica, Porto and Sporting

Football is the most-asked question and the one the old guides get most wrong.

From the 2026/27 season, which began on August 7, beIN SPORTS is the exclusive US home of Liga Portugal, by its own announcement. Every match airs on beIN SPORTS in the US, and beIN SPORTS Xtra streams some content free, including on YouTube.

beIN is carried by several pay-TV and live streaming services; which ones, and at what price, changes, so check the service you're considering against beIN's own "where to watch" list before subscribing. Cup competitions such as the Taça de Portugal can sit with a different rights holder, so check fixture listings for those.

Portugal or Brazil? Different shopping lists

"Portuguese channels" covers two very different markets, and US services treat them separately.

Brazilian TV is far larger, led by Globo, with DISH selling Brazil packages from $19.99 (TV Globo alone) up to $39.99 (Brazil Elite, 12 channels). One more option for grandparents who mainly want company in the background: RTP Mundo's own schedule repeats its main news and magazine programmes through the day, so a free-to-air receiver left on RTP gives a steady Portuguese channel with no subscription to manage. The boxes and resellers to skip

The top search results for Portuguese IPTV include boxes at around $265 promising "free TV from Portugal with no monthly payment," and resellers advertising "+495 live channels" from Portugal. Some even quote Portuguese regulators and licensing rules in their own marketing.

Ask one question: can this seller show you a licence for SIC or TVI in the US? DISH can. A box that never charges you again can't be paying SIC, TVI or Sport TV every month for their channels, so it isn't licensed, and the servers behind it can disappear without notice. If you already have legitimate access from a Portuguese operator that lets you use its app abroad, that's a different matter: check its terms, because most domestic Portuguese TV subscriptions restrict use outside Portugal or the EU.
