Sling Desi Review (2026): Packs, Prices and Who It Suits

Short answer: Sling's Desi packs are the easiest licensed way to put live Hindi channels on a US TV without a dish, and the Desi Binge Plus add-on is one of the cheaper legal routes to Willow cricket. The catch is structural: Sling sells Desi packs as separate products from its English Orange and Blue plans, so a household that wants ESPN and Zee TV ends up with two bills inside one app.

At a glance

Verdict Good for Hindi-first homes

South Indian Dakshin Flex, Dakshin Mega

Contract None; monthly or prepaid annual

The question to ask before you sign up

Do you want live channels, or do you want shows?

That sounds pedantic. It isn't. Sling's Desi range is really two products. The Hindi and Dakshin packs are live TV: Zee, Sony-family and other channels on a schedule, with a cloud DVR. Desi Binge is mostly on-demand: web series and films aggregated from partner apps. People who want the 8pm serial live buy the first. People who binge Panchayat-style originals are better off with the second, or with a single broadcaster app.

Get that wrong and you'll pay for a pack you barely open.

What each Desi pack is for

Pack What it is Suits
Hindi Core live Hindi entertainment, film and news channels Households that watch serials and news live
Hindi Mega Hindi plus more channels and some on-demand extras Heavy viewers, multi-generation homes
Dakshin Flex / Mega Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam channels South Indian families
Desi Binge On-demand shows and films from partner apps Binge viewers who don't need live TV
Desi Binge Plus Desi Binge plus Willow cricket Cricket fans who also want on-demand
Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Bangla Smaller language packs Single-language viewers

Prices, and how to read them

Sling's international pricing moves more than its English pricing and is often shown as a first-month discount. As a rough guide from Sling's own pages and deal listings, checked September 2026:

  • Single-language Desi packs have typically sat in the $10-25 a month range, with Mega tiers at the top.
  • Sling has offered prepaid annual Desi packs at a discount, sometimes bundled with a streaming stick.
  • Desi Binge Plus launched at $15 a month or $99 a year including Willow. Check whether that has changed before counting on it.

Two things inflate the bill. First, cloud DVR beyond the included hours is an add-on. Second, if anyone in the house wants English channels, Sling Orange or Blue is a separate subscription at English-package prices. Sling's English base plans alone cost roughly $45-50 a month in 2026.

If that combined figure looks high, our cheapest way to watch live TV guide covers covering the English side for less, often with just an antenna.

Where Sling Desi is strong

No hardware, no contract. It runs on Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, Samsung and LG TVs, and phones, all from official app stores. You can cancel after a festival season and come back later.

It's licensed. Sling has held direct deals with Zee and other Indian networks for years. That means consistent picture quality and a company you can dispute a charge with.

The DVR helps with the time difference. Indian primetime lands in the US morning. Recording and watching in the evening is how most families actually use it.

Willow bundling. For cricket fans, Desi Binge Plus has been one of the cheaper legal ways to get Willow, compared with buying it separately. We compare that in Willow vs ESPN+ for cricket.

Where it falls short

Not every network is there. Some big Indian broadcasters keep US rights for their own apps. If the household's favourite show is on a network Sling doesn't carry, no Desi pack will fix that.

Line-ups shift. Channels have come and gone as contracts renewed. That's a risk with prepaid annual plans.

Regional depth is thinner than specialists. For Telugu or Malayalam, a specialist like YuppTV often has more channels. See our YuppTV review for that comparison.

Two subscriptions for bilingual homes. Already covered, but it's the complaint that comes up most.

Alternatives worth comparing

If you mainly want… Look at Why
Live Hindi channels on a TV Sling Hindi or Hindi Mega Broadest licensed live Hindi line-up without a dish
South Indian regional channels YuppTV More regional channels per dollar
One network's shows on demand That network's own app Full library, often cheaper than a pack
Cricket only Willow direct or via a live TV service Skip entertainment you won't watch
Satellite reliability DISH South Asian packs Same channel family, no internet dependence

Our overview of Indian channels in the USA goes through each route in more depth.

What to avoid: boxes and "Indian IPTV" subscriptions promising every Star, Sony, Zee and Colors channel plus IPL for $10 a month. That combination isn't licensed in the US at that price, and those services routinely disappear mid-season. Here's how to spot them.
