Short answer: there's no way to run TiviMate on a Vega OS Fire TV, and no Appstore player comes close to replacing it yet. Vega isn't Android, so APKs simply can't run, and Amazon only allows apps from its own Appstore. If you bought a Fire TV Stick 4K Select or the 2026 Fire TV Stick HD to use with a playlist, the most useful move is often to return it while you can and buy a $50 Google TV box instead. If you're keeping it, check the Appstore for player apps listed as compatible with your exact model, and use licensed services' own apps where they exist.

TiviMate and Vega OS
| Vega models | Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Fire TV Stick HD (2026) |
| TiviMate | Not possible, no workaround |
| Other players | Appstore only; check compatibility |
| Jellyfin, Kodi | Not available (Jellyfin app in early work) |
| Best fix | Swap for a Google TV or Fire OS device |
First, confirm you're on Vega
Not every new Fire TV runs Vega. As of September 2026, Amazon's Vega OS devices are the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, launched in October 2025 at about $40, and the Fire TV Stick HD announced in April 2026. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max, 4K Plus and Fire TV Cube still run Fire OS, which is Android-based, and TiviMate works on them.
The quickest check is the box or the product page, which names the model. On the device itself, Settings then My Fire TV then About shows the model and software. If the software says Vega OS, read on. If it says Fire OS, you don't need an alternative at all. Every Fire TV model and what it can install.
Why TiviMate can't come across
People reasonably assume this is a settings problem, because on older Fire TVs it was. You'd enable apps from unknown sources and install an APK. On Vega, that path isn't blocked. It doesn't exist.
Vega is a Linux-based system Amazon built itself. Apps for it are written specifically for Vega and distributed only through the Amazon Appstore. An Android APK is the wrong format entirely, the way a Windows program won't run on an iPad. No developer option, ADB command or downloader app changes that.
So TiviMate only arrives on Vega if its developer rewrites it for Vega and Amazon accepts it into the Appstore. As of September 2026 there's no sign of that. The same is true of OTT Navigator and Kodi. Jellyfin's maintainers have said publicly that their Android TV app will never run on Vega, though they're in early work on a separate Vega app.
Vega also isn't just a different format. Early reviews note the 4K Select has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, and drops Dolby Vision and Atmos decoding. It was built as a budget stick for mainstream streaming apps, and it shows.
Your real options, ranked
| Option | Cost | How close to TiviMate | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return it, buy a Google TV box | About $50 to $100 (Sept 2026) | Identical: it runs TiviMate | Anyone who bought it for a playlist |
| Swap for a Fire OS model | Fire TV Stick 4K Max, about $60 list | Identical, for now | People who like the Fire TV interface |
| Licensed services' own apps | The service's price | Different; no playlist needed | Mainstream streaming services on Vega |
| An Appstore player listed for your model | Varies | Usually far behind | Basic live viewing from a playlist |
| Watch on the TV's own apps | Free | Depends on the TV | TVs that already have a player you like |
The first two are the only ones that actually give you TiviMate. Everything else is a compromise. If you're still inside Amazon's return window, returning it is the least painful option by a distance.
Checking the Appstore properly
If you'd rather keep the stick, the Amazon Appstore is your only source. Here's how to avoid wasting time.
- Search on the stick itself, not on a computer. The on-device store shows only what installs on that model. Search terms like "M3U" and "IPTV player" work better than app names.
- Read the publisher and the last update date. Some reports say Smarters-branded players have appeared in the Appstore for Vega. Check who actually publishes any listing, and ignore anything that hasn't been updated in a year.
- Check what it supports. You want M3U or Xtream Codes, plus an XMLTV guide. A player without a guide grid is a channel list, not a TiviMate replacement.
- Test before paying. Many players have a free tier or trial. Try your playlist during a busy evening before buying anything.
One more thing to know. Amazon now blocks apps it identifies as giving access to unlicensed content, at install and at launch, on every Fire TV. Players that only play your own playlist aren't the target, but it's another reason to stay with licensed sources. Licensed versus unlicensed, plainly.
Also check whether you need a player at all. If what you watch comes from a licensed live TV service, its own app is simpler. Note that not every service has a Vega app yet: at the 4K Select's launch, reviewers noted YouTube TV and Apple TV were among the missing, so confirm your service is listed before relying on it.
Swapping the device: what to buy
If TiviMate is the point, buy something it runs on. Prices are US list or typical retail as of September 2026 and move with sales.
| Device | System | Approx. price | Why pick it |
|---|---|---|---|
| onn 4K Pro | Google TV | About $50 | Cheapest good TiviMate box; has a USB port and Ethernet |
| Google TV Streamer | Google TV | $99.99 | Faster, Ethernet built in, long update support |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | Fire OS | About $60 | Familiar Fire TV menus; runs TiviMate today |
| Nvidia Shield TV Pro | Android TV | About $200 | Best for heavy recording and storage |
We'd lean towards Google TV rather than another Fire OS stick. Amazon has shown which direction it's going, and buying a Fire OS model now means you may face the same problem at your next upgrade. The full device comparison and setting up on the Google TV Streamer.
If you're keeping it anyway
There are good reasons to keep a Vega stick. It's cheap, it's quick for mainstream apps, and it may be perfectly fine on a bedroom TV where you watch Netflix and Prime Video and nothing else.
The sensible split is to use the Vega stick for the big licensed apps and put your playlist on a different screen. A spare Android phone or tablet running OTT Navigator, or a laptop with VLC or Kodi, covers the odd evening you want a channel from your playlist on that TV. Casting from a phone is another stopgap, though it's clumsy for live TV.
And keep an eye on the Appstore. Amazon is actively courting developers to rebuild apps for Vega, and the list of available players will look different in a year. Jellyfin already has a Vega app in progress. It's reasonable to hope a proper guide-based player follows, and unreasonable to buy hardware on that hope.
What not to try
- "Jailbreak" guides for Vega. Guides written for older Fire TVs don't apply. Anything claiming to sideload APKs onto a 4K Select is wrong or selling something.
- Web players that ask for your login. A website that asks you to paste your provider details so it can "stream them to your Fire TV" is holding your credentials for you. Don't.
- Sellers who say "our app works on the new Fire Stick". Ask which Appstore listing, and look it up yourself. If they send a download link instead, that answers the question.
- Keeping a stick you'll resent. A $40 stick that can't run the one app you use isn't a bargain.
Quick answers
Can I install TiviMate on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select? No. It runs Vega OS, which can't run Android apps, and TiviMate isn't in the Amazon Appstore for Vega.
