Short answer: on an Android TV or Google TV box in 2026, TiviMate is the better choice. It has the cleaner guide, far better recording, and a single, identifiable place to buy it. IPTV Smarters Pro's big advantage used to be that it ran almost everywhere, but the original app was pulled from Google Play after a Madrid court order in December 2022, and the name is now attached to a tangle of look-alike apps from different publishers. If you do use Smarters, the question isn't which is better. It's whether the copy you're installing is really from the developer you think it is.

Start with your device
Before any feature comparison, one question settles half the cases: what are you watching on?
TiviMate is an Android TV app. It runs on Google TV devices, Android TV boxes like the Nvidia Shield and onn 4K Pro, and Amazon's Android-based Fire OS sticks such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It doesn't run on phones in any comfortable way, and it doesn't run on Apple TV, Samsung, LG, Roku or Amazon's newer Vega OS sticks.
Smarters, historically, was everywhere: Android, iOS, Apple TV, Windows, macOS, and TV apps for Samsung and LG. That breadth is why so many providers told their customers to use it, and it's why the comparison exists at all.
So if you're on Android TV, this is a genuine choice and TiviMate wins it. If you're on an Apple TV or a smart TV's built-in app store, TiviMate isn't an option and you're really choosing between Smarters-branded apps and other players for that platform. Players for every platform covers those.
What happened to IPTV Smarters
IPTV Smarters Pro was built by WHMCS Smarters, an Indian software company that also sells white-label player apps to IPTV businesses. The app itself shipped empty, like any player.
In December 2022, a Madrid investigating court ordered Google to remove IPTV Smarters Pro from Google Play, following a complaint from LaLiga backed by a Spanish police report that the app was being used to watch pirated match broadcasts. The order targeted the app because of how it was used, not because it contained channels.
Since then, the Android version has been distributed outside Google Play, and app stores have carried apps with "Smarters" in the name from publishers other than the original developer. Reports in 2026 describe at least one App Store listing using the Smarters name from an unrelated company. Treat any listing's publisher name as the thing to check, not the app's icon or title. Why providers still point customers at Smarters goes into the business side of this.
Feature by feature
| Feature | TiviMate | IPTV Smarters Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Guide (EPG) | Grid-first, fast, readable from the sofa | Menu-first; guide is a secondary screen |
| Recording | Scheduled and recurring, to USB or network (Premium) | Basic, varies by platform version |
| Catch-up | Yes, common formats | Yes, Xtream-style archives |
| Multiple playlists | Premium | Yes |
| Multi-screen | Yes (Premium) | Yes on some versions |
| Login types | M3U, Xtream Codes, Stalker | M3U, Xtream Codes |
| Platforms | Android TV, Google TV, Fire OS | Historically Android, iOS, tvOS, Windows, macOS, Samsung, LG |
| Official store status | Distributed through official channels; Premium via Google Play | Removed from Google Play (Dec 2022 order) |
| Who publishes it | One developer | Original developer plus many rebrands |
Features are as described in each developer's published material and reported by reviewers in 2026. Smarters varies more than most apps because each platform version and each rebrand behaves slightly differently.
Guide and everyday use
This is where the two feel most different, and it's the thing you'll notice every single day.
TiviMate opens into a TV guide. You scroll channels and time slots on one screen, press OK, and you're watching. It feels like a cable box because it was designed to.
Smarters opens into a menu of tiles: Live TV, Movies, Series, Catch Up. Pick Live TV, then a category, then a channel. It's clear enough, but it's more clicks, and the full guide grid is a separate view you have to go looking for. For someone who mostly watches on-demand content from their provider, that layout is fine. For live TV channel-hopping, it's slower.
Guide data itself comes from your provider in both cases. If it's missing or mismatched, neither app will fix it. What to do when the guide is empty.
The clone problem
This is the real reason we'd steer most people away from Smarters in 2026, and it has nothing to do with features.
WHMCS Smarters sells customised versions of its player to other businesses. Many IPTV sellers ship their own branded "player" that's a Smarters build with a different name. Add the unofficial APK mirrors that sprang up after the Google Play removal, and you have dozens of apps that look alike, some legitimate and some modified.
That matters because you type your provider's username and password into the app. A modified app can send those details anywhere, show you ads, or do worse on the device. With TiviMate there's one developer and one official way to pay, so the question doesn't come up in the same way.
If you stay with Smarters, install it only from an official app store listing where the publisher is clearly the original developer, or from the developer's own site. Don't install a Smarters build a seller sends you a link to. Other signs a seller isn't what they claim.
Price
TiviMate is free for one playlist, with Premium at about $11.99 a year or $33.99 lifetime as reported in 2026, covering up to five devices. It's sold only through the TiviMate Companion app on Google Play.
IPTV Smarters Pro has generally been free to use, with some versions offering paid ad removal or extra features. Rebranded versions are often "free" because the cost is built into the seller's subscription.
So on price alone, Smarters looks cheaper. But $12 a year is a small amount compared with the risk of feeding your login to an app you can't trace to its publisher.
Switching from Smarters to TiviMate
Moving over is quicker than people expect, because your subscription isn't tied to the app. Find the server address, username and password you entered in Smarters. Your provider's welcome email usually has them too. In TiviMate, choose Add playlist, then Xtream Codes, and enter the same three details. If your provider gave you an M3U link instead, paste that.
Give the guide a few minutes to load on first run. Favourites and custom channel order won't come across, so expect ten minutes of tidying. And uninstall the old app afterwards, so it isn't holding a connection open in the background and eating into your provider's device limit.
Verdict by situation
Android TV, Google TV or a Fire OS stick: TiviMate. The guide is better, the recording is better, and there's no uncertainty about who made it. Start free and pay only if you need a Premium feature. Whether Premium is worth it for you.
You need recording: TiviMate Premium, or a DVR server if you want recordings on every device.
Apple TV or iPhone: neither in its classic form. Look at established Apple players with clear publishers instead. Options on Apple TV.
Samsung or LG TV app: TiviMate won't install. Either use a player built for that TV or add a $50 Google TV box. Samsung options.
Vega OS Fire TV: neither. Only Amazon Appstore apps install there.
Your provider insists on Smarters: that's a flag worth noticing. A licensed service publishes its own app in official stores. A seller who requires a specific third-party player and sends you the download link is usually not licensed. How to tell the difference in the US.
