Best IPTV Player for LG TV (2026): webOS Apps Ranked

Rank App Cost per TV (Sept 2026) Trial Why
1 Smart IPTV (SIPTV) €5.49 once 7 days Built for LG first, still listed on webOS in most regions
2 IBO Player Pro About €8 lifetime 7 days Better film and series screens
3 Hot IPTV €5.99/yr or €14.99 lifetime 30 days Longest trial
4 SS IPTV Free n/a Free, but dated and clunky

Short answer: on an LG TV, Smart IPTV is still the best-value player at €5.49 per TV, one time. IBO Player Pro is the upgrade if you watch a lot of on-demand content. What catches LG owners out is that Smarters Player Lite, the free app Samsung guides lean on, has never been on the webOS store, so there's no polished free option. And like every webOS player, none of these record. If you want recording or a fast guide with thousands of channels, plug in a streaming stick instead.

Smart IPTV: still the default

Smart IPTV started life on LG TVs, and it shows. It's light, it loads quickly on older webOS versions, and it has survived on the LG Content Store in most countries even where it's disappeared from Samsung's.

It works differently from phone apps. The TV shows a MAC address. You go to the developer's website on a computer, enter that MAC, and upload your M3U link or file there, along with an XMLTV guide link if you have one. Then you restart the app on the TV. After the seven-day trial, you pay €5.49 once for that TV.

The downside is the interface. It's a channel list and a basic guide, not a grid EPG. Film and series libraries from Xtream logins aren't its strength. For live TV, it's fine. For browsing on-demand content, it's tired.

IBO Player Pro and Hot IPTV

IBO Player Pro costs a little more, about €8 for a lifetime licence per TV, and gives you a more modern layout with separate sections for live, films and series. It takes Xtream logins as well as M3U, which many services now prefer. If you watch more on-demand than live, this is the one.

Hot IPTV is similar in capability, at €5.99 a year or €14.99 lifetime. Its 30-day trial is the longest of the bunch, which is useful if you want to see how a player copes during a weekend of football before committing.

Neither is clearly better than the other. Try both during their trials; pay for whichever feels faster on your specific TV.

The free route

SS IPTV is free and still listed on webOS in many regions. It's also the least pleasant to use: settings are managed through a website, the interface is dated, and ad placements have come and gone over the years. It works, and for a €0 player that's something.

Honestly, if you won't pay €5.49, SS IPTV will do. If you'll pay €5.49, Smart IPTV is a better experience for less than a sandwich.

Before any of it: LG Channels is built into recent LG TVs, free, licensed, with hundreds of channels. Check whether it already covers what you watch. So do free over-the-air channels with an antenna, as our cheapest way to watch live TV guide explains.

What webOS can and can't do

LG apps are web apps. That keeps them simple and safe, but it limits what players can do:

  • No recording. Apps can't write streams to USB storage in the background.
  • Slower guides. A 3,000-channel guide with a week of data can take many seconds to draw.
  • Catch-up depends on the app. Smart IPTV and IBO can play catch-up if your service supplies it, but support is less consistent than on Android.
  • Updates arrive slowly. LG's webOS Re:New programme promises OS updates for recent models, but older sets get left behind by app developers first.

If you hit any of those walls, a Fire TV Stick 4K or Google TV Streamer running TiviMate solves all of them. See our best IPTV player overview for the Android picks.

Two TVs, three years: the real cost

Per-TV fees look trivial until you add them up. Here's a household with two LG TVs over three years:

Option Upfront 3-year total
Smart IPTV on both TVs €10.98 €10.98
IBO Player Pro on both About €16 About €16
Hot IPTV annual on both €11.98 €35.94
Two Fire TV Stick 4Ks + TiviMate lifetime About $100 + $33.99 About $134

The native apps win on money, clearly. The stick route costs more but buys recording, a proper guide and a device that outlasts the TV's app support. Which matters more depends on how much you watch.

What to avoid

Resellers offering to "activate" a player for you. Activation is something you do yourself on the developer's own website with the MAC shown on your screen; there's no reason to hand it to anyone. And any app that appears already full of channels is an unlicensed service, not a player. Our guide to what's legal explains the difference plainly.
