Indian IPTV in the USA: Which App Runs on Which Device (2026)

Short answer: the big licensed Indian services, Sling and YuppTV, run on every mainstream US streaming platform: Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. Trouble starts with the single-network apps. ZEE5's own support page lists Samsung (2016 and later), LG (2017 and later), Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV and Chromecast, but not Roku. If your family relies on two or three apps, a Google TV device or an Android-based Fire TV covers the most ground, and casting from a phone fills the gaps.

The app-by-device table

"Yes" means the service lists the platform officially or the app is in that platform's US store. "Check" means it has been reported but we couldn't confirm a current listing. "Not listed" means the service's own support page leaves it out.

App Roku Fire TV Apple TV Google TV Samsung LG
Sling (Desi packs) Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
YuppTV Yes Yes Yes Yes Recent models Recent models
ZEE5 Not listed Yes (Stick Gen 2+) Yes (HD and 4K) Yes (Android 7+) 2016+ (Tizen 3.0+) 2017+ (webOS 3.5+)
Willow Check Yes Check Yes Yes Check
Sun NXT Yes (US channel) Check Check Check Check Check

Two practical points. First, "Yes" for a TV brand never means every model. Smart TV apps are tied to the TV's operating system version, and older sets stop getting new apps. Second, app stores are country-specific. Your device account needs to be a normal US account; the US version of each app is the one licensed for US viewers.

Roku

Roku is the most popular streaming platform in the US and, for Indian apps, the most frustrating. Its store is curated by Roku, and several single-network Indian apps either aren't there for US accounts or have had playback problems.

How to add an app: from the home screen, go to Search and type the app name, or open Streaming Store (called Channel Store on older menus). Select the app, then Add channel. It appears at the bottom of your home screen; press * on the remote to move it up.

What works well: Sling and YuppTV, which cover most live Indian channels. Sun NXT has had a dedicated US Roku channel.

What doesn't: ZEE5 doesn't list Roku among its supported devices, and Roku community threads describe a ZEE5 app with persistent video problems. If Zee shows are a priority, Roku is the wrong main device.

Our IPTV on Roku guide covers the platform's limits in more depth.

Fire TV

Fire TV has broad support for Indian apps through the Amazon Appstore, with one new catch: which Fire TV you own.

How to add an app: press the magnifying glass on the home screen (or hold the voice button and say the app name), select the app, then Get or Download. It's added to Your Apps & Games; hold the Home button to reach it quickly.

The Vega OS question. Amazon's newer sticks, the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and newer Fire TV Stick HD units, run Amazon's own Vega OS rather than Android, and their Appstore selection is narrower. Before buying one for Indian TV, check that every app your family needs is listed for that model. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max and 4K Plus still run Android-based Fire OS and have the wider selection. Settings, then My Fire TV, then About tells you which you have.

ZEE5 lists Fire TV Stick second generation or later. Sling, YuppTV and Willow are all in the Appstore.

Apple TV

Apple TV is the simplest box to live with, which matters if you're setting it up for parents. App support for Indian services is good: Sling, YuppTV and ZEE5 (which lists Apple TV HD and 4K) are all in the US App Store.

How to add an app: open the App Store on the Apple TV, choose Search, type the name and select Get. Sign in with the service's account, not your Apple ID.

Useful extras: if an app is on your iPhone but not on the TV, AirPlay sends it to the Apple TV. Turn on Settings → AirPlay and HomeKit → Allow Access → Anyone on the Same Network so family members can cast without a code each time.

The downside is price: Apple TV 4K costs well over a Roku or Fire TV Stick. Our Apple TV guide covers setup and settings.

Samsung and LG smart TVs

Using the TV's built-in apps avoids an extra box and an extra remote. It works well on recent sets and badly on older ones.

Samsung (Tizen): press Home, go to Apps, search for the app and select Install. ZEE5 needs a 2016 or newer model running Tizen 3.0 or later. Sling and YuppTV support recent models.

LG (webOS): press Home, open the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer TVs), search and install. ZEE5 needs a 2017 or newer model with webOS 3.5 or later.

Finding your TV's year: on Samsung, Settings → Support → About This TV shows the model code; the letter after the screen size usually indicates the year. On LG, Settings → General → About This TV shows the webOS version directly.

If an app isn't in your TV's store, the TV is probably too old for it, and a $30 to $50 streaming stick is the fix. We cover each platform in IPTV on Samsung and IPTV on LG.

Google TV and Android TV

This is the platform with the fewest gaps. Google TV devices (the Google TV Streamer, the onn boxes, and TVs from Sony, TCL and Hisense) use the Google Play Store, where Indian broadcasters tend to publish first because Android is so widespread in India.

How to add an app: from the home screen, open Search (or the Apps tab), type the name, select it and choose Install. ZEE5 needs Android 7 or later, which any current device meets.

Google TV also has Chromecast built in, so anything that's only on a phone can be cast to it. That makes it the safest single device for a household that uses several Indian apps.

When the app isn't on your TV: casting

Most Indian apps have stronger phone apps than TV apps, and most phone apps can cast. Casting is a legitimate way to watch a licensed service on a big screen, and it's often the quickest fix.

  • Chromecast / Google Cast: works with Google TV devices and many Android-based TVs. Tap the cast icon in the app and pick the TV. ZEE5 lists Chromecast second generation or later.
  • AirPlay: from an iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV, or to recent Samsung, LG, Vizio and Roku TVs that support AirPlay.
  • Screen mirroring: a last resort. It sends the whole phone screen, quality is lower, and some apps block it for copyright reasons.

The catch is that the phone is in use while you cast, and an incoming call can interrupt playback. Fine for one show; tiring every night.

One device for the whole family

If you're buying one device for the main TV, match it to the apps, not the other way round.

Household uses Best device Avoid
Sling or YuppTV only Anything, including the TV's own apps Nothing in particular
Sling plus ZEE5 Google TV, Fire TV 4K Max, Apple TV Roku
Three or more Indian apps Google TV Roku, Vega OS Fire TV sticks
Grandparents who want it simple Apple TV or a Google TV device with one app pinned first Anything needing a phone to cast

Two final tips. Pin the main Indian app to the first slot on the home screen so it's one press from the remote. And skip devices sold pre-loaded with "Indian channels": those boxes run unlicensed services that stop working without warning.

Quick answers

Which streaming device is best for Indian channels in the USA? A Google TV device has the fewest gaps. Fire TV (Fire OS models) and Apple TV are close behind. Roku is weakest for single-network Indian apps.

Is ZEE5 available on Roku in the US? ZEE5 doesn't list Roku among its supported devices, and users have reported playback problems with the Roku app. Use another device or cast.

Can I watch Sling's Desi packs on a Samsung or LG TV? Yes, on recent models, through the TV's app store.

Why can't I find an Indian app on my smart TV? Usually the TV is too old. ZEE5, for example, needs a 2016+ Samsung or a 2017+ LG. A streaming stick solves it.

Does YuppTV work on Roku and Apple TV? Yes. YuppTV has official apps for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV and recent Samsung and LG TVs.

Can I cast Indian apps from my phone to the TV? Yes. Most support Chromecast or AirPlay, which work with Google TV, Apple TV and many recent smart TVs.

Do I need a VPN to watch Indian TV in the US? No. The licensed US versions of these apps are made for US viewers and work without one.

App availability changes as services update their TV apps and as platforms like Fire TV move to new operating systems. Device support for ZEE5 is from its own help centre; other listings come from service and store pages and may vary by model. Checked October 2026.
