Short answer: NBC's NBA games split three ways, and the split decides what you pay. Tuesday and Sunday games are on NBC itself, so an antenna gets them free, and a network tuner can even feed them into an IPTV player. Monday games are Peacock exclusives, and they only play in the Peacock app on the Premium plan, now $12.99 a month after the August 2026 price rise. The catch is NBCSN: it simulcasts some Peacock games, but only YouTube TV, Fubo and Xfinity carry it, and a Peacock subscription doesn't unlock the channel.
At a glance
NBA on NBC and Peacock, 2026-27
| Mondays | Peacock only (some on NBCSN) |
| Tuesdays | NBC and Peacock |
| Sundays | NBC and Peacock, from January 2027 |
| Peacock plan needed | Premium, $12.99/mo (Select has no sports) |
| Free route | Antenna for NBC |
Which night is where
NBC is paying about $2.5 billion a season for 11 years to show around 100 regular-season games. They're spread across a broadcast network, a streaming service and a revived cable channel, each with different rules. Here's the 2026-27 layout, from the NBA's schedule published in August 2026.
| Window | Platform | Free by antenna? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opening night, Tue 20 Oct | NBC and Peacock | Yes | Celtics-Pistons, 76ers-Knicks, Thunder-Spurs |
| Peacock NBA Monday | Peacock exclusive; up to two games also on NBCSN | No | Up to three games a night |
| Coast 2 Coast Tuesday | NBC, streamed nationally on Peacock | Yes | 8pm ET and 8pm PT tip-offs; which game you see on NBC depends on your region |
| Sunday Night Basketball | NBC and Peacock | Yes | Starts January 2027, after NBC's NFL commitments ease |
| MLK Day (18 Jan) and Presidents' Day (15 Feb) | NBC/Peacock, some Peacock/NBCSN | Partly | Four-game days |
| Playoffs | NBC, with about half on Peacock/NBCSN | Partly | Conference Finals in even years |
One detail catches people on Tuesdays. NBC airs two games, one for the eastern half of the country and one for the west. Your local NBC station shows one of them. Peacock streams both nationally. So if you want the other coast's game, that's Peacock, not your antenna.
NBC games: free, and IPTV-friendly
Every game that airs on NBC itself (Tuesdays, Sundays, opening night, the holiday specials and NBC's playoff share) comes free over the air. That's the bulk of the package, and it costs the price of an antenna.
It's also the only part of NBC's NBA coverage that you can watch inside an IPTV player legally. A network tuner like an HDHomeRun takes your antenna signal and publishes your local channels as a playlist on your home network, at http://hdhomerun.local/lineup.m3u. Add that URL in TiviMate, OTT Navigator or VLC and your NBC station shows up as a channel. Plex and Channels DVR detect the tuner directly, and both can record games too. How recording works with IPTV.
Two checks before buying anything. Use the FCC's reception map to confirm NBC comes in strongly at your address; our antenna guide walks through it. And if your local NBC has moved to ATSC 3.0 with encryption, third-party players may not be able to decode it, so check what your station broadcasts.
Peacock: which plan, what it costs
Peacock raised prices on 18 August 2026 for new subscribers, and existing subscribers move to the new rates from their first bill on or after 17 September.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | NBA games? | Local NBC 24/7? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Select | $8.99 | $89.99 | No | No |
| Premium | $12.99 | $129.99 | Yes, with ads | No |
| Premium Plus | $19.99 | $199.99 | Yes, ads remain in live sports | Yes |
Premium is the one to buy for basketball. Premium Plus removes ads from on-demand shows, not from live games, so the extra $7 a month mostly buys your local NBC feed inside the app. That's useful if you can't get an antenna signal. If you can, it's wasted money.
Annual Premium at $129.99 works out to $10.83 a month. That only makes sense if you'd keep Peacock outside basketball season. The NBA regular season runs late October to early April; six monthly payments come to $77.94, well under the annual price. Peacock is easy to cancel and restart, so monthly wins for most fans.
Bundles can be cheaper than paying directly. Walmart+ membership has included Peacock Premium, and the Apple TV and Peacock bundle rose to $17.99 on 1 September 2026. Check what you already pay for before signing up.
During Peacock's live NBA games, Performance View is an optional overlay that labels hot shooters, draws shot charts and shows live player stats. It's a novelty for some and a genuinely useful second screen for others; you can toggle it off.
The NBCSN wrinkle
NBCUniversal relaunched NBCSN on 17 November 2025, mainly as a home for simulcasts of Peacock's live sport. For the NBA, that means up to two of each Monday's Peacock games also air on NBCSN.
Who carries it, as of September 2026:
- YouTube TV: yes, in the base plan
- Fubo: yes, in the base plan
- Xfinity cable: yes
- Hulu + Live TV, Sling, DirecTV Stream, Spectrum, Cox, Dish, DirecTV satellite: no
And the counterintuitive part: Peacock doesn't include the NBCSN channel. It doesn't need to, since every NBCSN game is already streaming on Peacock. But it does mean a YouTube TV or Fubo subscriber gets some Monday games without Peacock, and a Hulu Live subscriber gets none.
Live TV services and what they cover
If you're paying for a live TV streaming service anyway, here's how much of NBC's package it already covers.
| Service | Local NBC | NBCSN | Peacock-only Mondays |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV ($82.99) | Yes | Yes | Only the NBCSN simulcasts |
| Fubo | Yes | Yes | Only the NBCSN simulcasts |
| Hulu + Live TV ($89.99) | Yes | No | No |
| DirecTV Stream | Yes | No | No |
| Sling Blue | Select markets only | No | No |
None of them includes a Peacock subscription, so a fan who wants every Monday game needs Peacock on top. What the US live TV services cost overall.
A related trap: if you also buy NBA League Pass, NBC, Peacock and NBCSN games are blacked out on it live and only appear as replays from 6am ET the next day. League Pass doesn't replace Peacock.
Peacock and IPTV players
The "IPTV" in this search usually comes from people who already have TiviMate or IPTV Smarters and want NBC's games in the same guide. Here's the honest split:
- NBC broadcasts: yes, through an antenna and network tuner, as above.
- Peacock: no. Peacock streams with DRM and only inside its own app, available on Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, Samsung, LG, Vizio, consoles and phones. It doesn't produce an M3U playlist.
- NBCSN: only inside the YouTube TV, Fubo or Xfinity apps.
Anything sold as "Peacock NBA channels" in a playlist is a restream of Peacock's feed without permission. These tend to die at tip-off when rights holders issue takedowns. Where the legal line sits.
The practical setup is one streaming device with two apps on the home row: your player for antenna channels, and Peacock for Mondays. Devices that run both well.
If you follow one team
Before paying for Peacock, count your team's games on it. The NBA publishes the full NBC, Peacock and NBCSN list for the season, and the spread is uneven: teams with national stars get a dozen or more slots, while smaller-market teams may get two or three. If your team has three Monday games spread across three months, that's about $39 of Peacock for three games. Some fans will pay it happily; others will settle for the radio call or a next-morning replay.
Remember that most of your team's 82 games won't be on NBC at all. They're on the local regional sports network or the team's own streaming app, and NBC's national games are the exception rather than the rule.
Cheapest setup by fan type
| You want | Setup | Cost for the season |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday and Sunday national games | Antenna | $25-$80 once |
| Every NBC and Peacock game | Antenna + Peacock Premium, Oct-Apr | About $78 plus antenna |
| NBC games in TiviMate, recorded | Antenna + HDHomeRun + player | About $130-$230 once |
| No antenna signal | Peacock Premium Plus (includes local NBC) | About $120 |
| Already on YouTube TV | Add Peacock only for the Mondays you care about | $12.99 per month used |
NBC is only one of three national partners this season. Amazon has 66 exclusive games and ESPN/ABC carry the rest, so for a whole-season plan read the cheapest way to watch the NBA in 2026-27.
