OTT Navigator Review (2026): The Best Free Android IPTV Player?

Short answer: OTT Navigator is the best free IPTV player on Android, and for many people it's the only one they need. It handles more catch-up formats than anything else, runs on phones as well as TV boxes, and keeps almost all of its features free. The catch is the interface: it's dense, full of settings, and less pleasant from the sofa than TiviMate. If you like tuning things, you'll love it. If you want a player that disappears, you probably won't.

At a glance

OTT Navigator in brief

Developer Studio Scillarium

Price Free; optional premium in device packs
Standout Catch-up and archive support
Weak spot Busy interface, thin recording

The verdict in a table

This review is based on the developer's published documentation, the app's feature set and prices widely reported in 2026, not on a lab test. Ratings are our editorial judgement relative to other Android players.

Area Rating Why
Catch-up and archive Excellent Xtream, Flussonic, timeshift and custom templates
Value Excellent Most features free; premium is cheap
Device coverage Very good Separate phone and TV versions on Google Play
Customisation Very good Layouts, groups, per-playlist settings
Ease of use Fair Dense menus, steep first hour
Recording Fair Works, but scheduling is basic
Guide readability on a TV Good Fine once you pick a simpler layout

Overall: a strong 4 out of 5 for Android users who value catch-up and price. A 3 for anyone who mainly wants a simple guide on a shared TV.

What OTT Navigator is

OTT Navigator is an IPTV player from Studio Scillarium. Like every legitimate player, it ships empty. You add an M3U playlist, an Xtream Codes login or a similar source from a service you already use, and an XMLTV guide if your provider doesn't supply one, and it presents your channels with a TV guide.

It's distributed on Google Play in separate phone and TV versions, as well as through a few other Android stores. It runs on Google TV, Android TV boxes, Android phones and tablets, and Amazon's Fire OS sticks such as the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It doesn't run on iPhone, Apple TV, Samsung or LG TVs, or Amazon's Vega OS sticks like the Fire TV Stick 4K Select, which can't run Android apps at all. What to do if you have a Vega OS stick.

What it does well

Catch-up. This is the headline. Providers expose archives in different technical ways, and OTT Navigator supports more of them than any other mainstream player. It also lets you define custom archive templates in the playlist. If your provider offers catch-up and it doesn't work in another app, try it here first. How catch-up works.

It's genuinely free. The free version isn't a trial or a teaser. Guide, catch-up, channel management and external player support all work without paying.

Phone and TV from one developer. TiviMate is built for TVs and awkward on a phone. OTT Navigator has a proper phone version, which matters if you watch in the kitchen or on the train as much as on the sofa.

Depth. Several guide layouts, per-playlist settings, channel group management, buffer tuning, audio options. If something about playback annoys you, there's usually a setting for it.

Where it falls down

The first hour. OTT Navigator shows you a lot of options at once, and some menus nest three or four levels deep. New users often change a setting by accident and can't find it again. Pick a simpler theme early and resist the urge to adjust everything.

Recording. It can record, but scheduling and recurring recordings are more basic than TiviMate Premium's. Several reviewers describe it as lacking a proper DVR. If recording is a priority, look elsewhere. The best options for recording.

Buying premium is confusing. Premium is sold in device packs through a separate app, OttNav Companion, or in-app, and the price varies by region and pack size. It's not expensive, but it's harder to understand than it needs to be.

Shared TVs. For a household where someone just wants to turn on the news, TiviMate's cable-box feel is easier. OTT Navigator rewards the person who set it up more than everyone else.

Setting it up without getting lost

Most of OTT Navigator's bad reputation for being complicated comes from the first session, so it's worth doing it in a sensible order.

  1. Add one source only. Choose the provider type that matches what you were given: Xtream Codes if you have a server, username and password; M3U if you have a single link. Leave anything else for later.
  2. Let the guide load before judging. Large guides take a few minutes the first time. If it's still empty after that, the problem is usually the guide URL or channel matching, not the app. Fixing an empty guide.
  3. Pick a layout, then stop. On a TV, a grid-style guide is easiest to read from a distance. Choose it and leave the rest of the appearance settings alone for a week.
  4. Hide what you don't watch. Collapse or hide channel groups you'll never use. A 40-channel list is far nicer to navigate than a 400-channel one.
  5. Only then explore. Buffer size, the external player option and archive settings are worth a look if something's wrong. If nothing's wrong, leave them.

Done this way, setup is a ten-minute job. The people who struggle are usually the ones who opened every menu on day one.

If channels stutter, that's rarely the player's fault either. Changing apps won't fix a slow Wi-Fi link or an overloaded source, so check the connection first. Tracking down buffering.

Free vs premium, and the price

The developer's FAQ describes premium as mainly a device-activation system: a standard pack covers five devices, and larger packs cost less per device. Reviewers list premium extras including multiple user profiles, multiple playlists, picture-in-picture, auto-resume of the last channel and more detailed parental controls.

On price, published figures in 2026 vary a lot by region, from under a dollar a month to around $20 for a long-term licence. Don't rely on a figure from a website, including this one. Open OttNav Companion or the in-app purchase screen, which shows your local price before you commit.

Our advice: use the free version for a couple of weeks. Only buy premium if you hit a specific limit, most commonly wanting more than one playlist or separate profiles for family members.

Against the alternatives

OTT Navigator TiviMate Kodi
Price Free; cheap premium Free; Premium ~$11.99/yr Free
Catch-up Best in class Good Depends on add-on
Recording Basic Best on Android Needs a backend
Phone app Yes No Yes, clunky
Ease of use Medium Easy Hard

If you're torn between the first two, the detailed TiviMate vs OTT Navigator comparison goes feature by feature. Kodi is the choice for PCs and people who enjoy setup. Players for other devices.

Getting it safely

Install OTT Navigator from Google Play on your phone or Android TV device. On a Fire OS stick, it isn't in the Amazon Appstore, so check the developer's official site for its distribution, and never use a "premium unlocked" or modded APK. Those are modified by unknown people, and you'd be entering your provider's login into them.

Buy premium only through OttNav Companion or the in-app purchase. Third-party "lifetime activation" sellers are not the developer.

And remember the app is only as good as the source you add. It doesn't include or recommend channels. Use a playlist or login from a licensed service. A seller who bundles "OTT Navigator with 20,000 channels" is selling an unlicensed service, not the app. How to spot one.
