NFL Sunday Ticket Student Discount 2026: $119, and the Fine Print

Short answer: the NFL Sunday Ticket student plan costs $119 for the 2026 season, against a $480 standalone list price. That's the cheapest legitimate way anyone can buy it. You need to be enrolled at an eligible US college or university and pass an online student verification, and you don't need a YouTube TV subscription. The catch most students discover after paying: the student plan has historically been tied to your own account with no family sharing, so it isn't a cheap way to cover the whole house back home.

Who qualifies

YouTube's student plan is for students currently enrolled at an eligible college or university in the United States. In past seasons that has meant:

  • Enrolled at an accredited, degree-granting US institution. Community colleges have generally counted.
  • Able to pass automated verification, typically through a third-party service that checks enrollment against school records.
  • Using a personal Google account, not one managed by your school.

High school students, recent graduates and people on gap years don't qualify. Graduate students generally do, if they're currently enrolled. Eligibility is set by YouTube and can change season to season, so check the Sunday Ticket student page before counting on it.

Not a student? Teachers, military, veterans, first responders and medical workers have been offered $198 through ID.me in 2026. Every 2026 Sunday Ticket price, ranked covers all the options.

How to sign up, step by step

  1. Use a personal Google account. School-managed accounts can block purchases. Sign in to YouTube with your own Gmail.
  2. Go to the Sunday Ticket page and choose the student plan. It's listed alongside the standard plans during the season.
  3. Verify. You'll be sent to a verification step. Enter your school name and details. Most people are verified instantly; if not, you may need to upload proof of enrollment such as a current class schedule or tuition statement.
  4. Pay. The student plan has been billed as one upfront payment rather than monthly installments.
  5. Add RedZone if you want it, at checkout.
  6. Re-verify next season. Student status is checked again each year.

If verification fails, the most common reasons are a mismatch between your legal name and school records, or a school that the verification service doesn't list. Contacting the verifier's support with a document usually sorts it out within a day or two.

The limits to know before paying

It's out-of-market Sunday afternoon games only. Sunday Ticket doesn't include Thursday, Sunday night or Monday night games, or the games on your local CBS and Fox stations. For a student from Boston studying in Texas, that's exactly what you want: every Patriots game that isn't on Texas TV. For a student studying in their home team's city, it's mostly the wrong product.

"Local" means where you are. Blackouts follow your current location, not your hometown. At college in Ohio, the Browns and Bengals games on local TV are blacked out on Sunday Ticket, whichever team you support.

Family sharing. In past seasons the student plan couldn't be shared with the rest of a YouTube family group. Your parents can't piggyback on it.

Don't resell or share the login. It breaks YouTube's terms and an account shutdown means losing the season with no refund.

No refunds after the start of the season under YouTube's typical terms. Read them before buying.

Is it worth $119?

For an out-of-market fan, clearly. That's about $7 per week of the regular season for every Sunday afternoon game. Nothing else legitimate comes close.

It's less clear-cut if:

  • Your team is local to your campus. Most of its games are free on local TV with an antenna, or through the other places the NFL airs this season.
  • You mostly care about fantasy. RedZone may matter more to you than full games. It's an add-on to Sunday Ticket, or available separately through some sports tiers.
  • You'd watch at a bar or with friends who already have it.

A quick test: count how many of your team's games this season are on out-of-market Sunday afternoon slots. If it's eight or more, $119 is easily worth it.

The rest of the NFL week on a student budget

Sunday Ticket covers one window. For the other national games, students get some of the best discounts in streaming:

Game slot Where it airs Student-friendly option
Thursday Night Football Prime Video Prime Student, a discounted Amazon membership for verified students
Sunday Night Football NBC and Peacock Peacock student rate, $5.99 a month in September 2026
Monday Night Football ESPN, some on ABC ABC games free with an antenna; ESPN Unlimited otherwise
Local Sunday games CBS and Fox Free with an antenna

Add those to the $119 and a student can follow essentially every game of the season for a little over $200 in total. The same coverage at full price would run past $750. A small indoor antenna is often the best $30 a student spends; here's how to tell if it'll work in your dorm or apartment.

When you graduate

The student price lasts only while you're enrolled and verified. The season you graduate, you'll be offered the standard rates. Two things soften that. First, check whether you now fall into another discount group; new teachers and medical residents often do, at $198. Second, returning-customer offers have regularly been emailed to past subscribers before the season, and YouTube Premium members get a $144 reduction on standard pricing.

If you're graduating mid-season, the plan you've already paid for runs to the end of that season. Verification only happens at purchase.

Watching on campus Wi-Fi

Sunday Ticket streams through the YouTube or YouTube TV app, on phones, laptops, smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV and game consoles. A few student-specific snags:

  • Campus networks sometimes throttle streaming or block casting to TVs. If casting fails, a streaming stick plugged into the TV and signed in directly usually works better. Our streaming device picks.
  • Game day congestion on dorm Wi-Fi is real. If your room has an Ethernet port, use it.
  • Multiview (four games at once) needs more bandwidth and isn't available on every device.
  • Buffering fixes are in our guide to buffering during live games.

Avoid the "$10 NFL IPTV" offers that circulate in group chats every fall. They're unlicensed, they fail on Sunday afternoons when demand spikes, and the payment method is usually impossible to dispute. How to spot them.
