Short answer: Vega OS has plenty of apps for licensed live TV and free channels, a few for home media servers, and almost nothing for playing your own M3U or Xtream playlist. TiviMate, OTT Navigator, Kodi and VLC aren't there, and Channels has said it won't build a Vega app. The catch most lists miss: some apps in the Vega store aren't native at all. They're Android apps running on Amazon's servers and streamed to your TV, marked "Amazon cloud-hosted app", and they can disappear if the developer doesn't rebuild them.

The status table
Vega OS runs on three Amazon sticks: the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (October 2025), the Fire TV Stick HD (April 2026) and the third-generation Fire TV Stick 4K announced on September 30, 2026. None of them can install anything outside the Amazon Appstore. So the only question that matters is what's in the store.

Two numbers put the table in context. When AFTVnews counted in October 2025, the Vega store had 1,257 apps against more than 30,000 on Android-based Fire OS, and only about 69% of the top Movies and TV apps were available. By April 2026 Cord Busters put the figure at around 3,000. It's growing. It's still a fraction.
Native apps vs cloud-hosted apps
This is the detail almost no IPTV page explains, and it changes how much you can rely on an app.
When Vega launched, Amazon offered selected video-streaming developers a bridge: their existing Android app runs on Amazon's servers, and your stick receives the app's interface as a video feed, a bit like cloud gaming. The actual TV programme still streams straight to your stick and decodes locally, so picture quality isn't affected. Menus are another matter. On a slow connection, navigation can lag.
You can tell which is which. Cloud apps carry the label "Amazon cloud-hosted app" on their detail page in the Appstore. Look before you subscribe to anything.
Why it matters: Amazon promised to host these for free for at least nine months from the October 2025 launch, then said it would charge developers based on monthly active users. That nine-month mark passed in mid-2026. A developer who decides the fee isn't worth it can withdraw the app, and Channels did exactly that from the start, disabling cloud access to its app. A native Vega app is a commitment. A cloud-hosted one is a trial.
Licensed live TV services
This is Vega's strongest category, because the companies involved have money and every reason to be on Amazon's newest hardware.
At the 4K Select's launch Amazon listed Sling, Fubo, DirecTV, Hulu, ESPN, Peacock, Paramount+, Pluto TV, Tubi and Plex among others. Reviews at the time singled out YouTube TV and Apple TV as missing. Since then the picture has improved, but no reliable public list is kept current, and some pages online confidently say YouTube TV works while others say it doesn't. Search for it on your own stick. That's the only check that counts.
Smaller and specialist services are where you're most likely to come unstuck. International packages, regional sports apps and cable-company apps (Spectrum, Xfinity, local providers) arrived on Fire OS over a decade. Many haven't rebuilt yet. If a service is the reason you're buying a Fire TV, check its availability first, and check whether it's cloud-hosted.
One genuine plus for Vega: if the service's app is there, it'll also feed the Fire TV Live tab and guide, so you can browse channels from several services in one grid. Our live TV service comparison covers prices and channel line-ups.
Plex, Jellyfin and DVR software
Home media servers are how a lot of people watch antenna TV and legitimately supplied playlists on their TVs, so this category matters more than its size suggests.
Plex is on Vega. If you run a Plex server with a network tuner like an HDHomeRun, that's your route to antenna channels on a Vega stick. Confirm Live TV and DVR appear in the app on your device, since Plex Live TV needs a Plex Pass.
Jellyfin doesn't have an official Vega app yet. Its May 2026 "State of the Fin" update said a Vega client was in the prototype phase. Meanwhile an independent developer, Ambient Flare, released Astra, a free Jellyfin client for Vega, in July 2026. It's built around movies, shows and music. Its site doesn't advertise live TV, so don't count on it for your Jellyfin tuner channels.
Channels, the DVR software many cord-cutters use with an antenna, isn't coming. Its team said in October 2025 they won't build for Vega and have disabled cloud streaming of their Android app. Channels DVR vs Plex compares the two on devices that run both.
Playlist players: the gap
If a licensed provider has given you an M3U URL or an Xtream Codes login, this is where Vega disappoints.
Every well-established player is an Android app: TiviMate, OTT Navigator, Kodi, VLC, Perfect Player. None can run on Vega, and none has announced a Vega version. Writing for Vega means rebuilding an app from scratch in React Native with Amazon's SDK. Plenty of hobby projects are trying (you'll find them on GitHub), but a repository with no users isn't an app you can install.
Some IPTV-seller websites claim particular Smarters-branded players work on Vega. A few basic players have appeared in the store, so it isn't impossible. But be sceptical of any list that names an app as Vega-compatible and then tells you to install it as an APK. That's a contradiction: Vega can't install APKs at all.
The honest summary for late 2026: if your setup depends on a capable playlist player with a full guide, catch-up and recording, a Vega stick is the wrong device. Our TiviMate alternatives for Vega OS walks through the options if you already own one.
How to vet a player listing
If you do find a playlist player in the Vega store, five checks take two minutes and save a lot of frustration.
- Search on the stick itself. Amazon's website shows apps for all Fire TVs. The on-device store shows only what installs on yours.
- Look for "Amazon cloud-hosted app". If it's there, the player is an Android app streamed from Amazon's servers and may not last.
- Check the publisher and the update date. A named developer with a website, updated in the last few months.
- Confirm guide support. XMLTV or Xtream EPG support is what turns a channel list into something you can browse.
- Avoid apps that come with channels. A player should be empty until you add your own playlist. An app that arrives full of channels is a content service, and Amazon blocks those it identifies as unlicensed, at install and at launch.
That last check isn't just about Amazon's rules. A "player" that ships with thousands of free channels is getting them from somewhere, and that somewhere isn't paying for the rights. How to spot an IPTV scam covers the rest of the warning signs.
VPN apps
Vega launched with no VPN support at all. Amazon enabled it in November 2025, and NordVPN and IPVanish released native Vega apps, with other major providers following. That's useful on public Wi-Fi or in a hotel.
It isn't a way to get services from other countries. Licensed services check location for rights reasons and many block known VPN servers. Using one to get around that breaks their terms. Do you need a VPN for IPTV? covers when one is actually worth paying for.
If the table at the top leaves you short of what you need, the fix is the device, not the app. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max, the Fire TV Cube and Fire TV smart TVs from Hisense, TCL and Panasonic stay on Android-based Fire OS, and Google TV boxes run Android TV. All of them run the full catalogue. Which Fire TV runs what.
Quick answers
Are there IPTV apps for Vega OS? Yes for licensed live TV services, free channel apps and Plex. Very few for playing your own M3U or Xtream playlist, and none of the well-known Android players.
Is TiviMate available on Vega OS? No. It's an Android app and hasn't been rebuilt for Vega.
Can I install Kodi or VLC on Vega OS? No. Neither has a Vega version, and Vega can't install Android APK files.
